Welcome to the State College Ultimate League (SCUL).
This is a co-ed league for ultimate frisbee where everyone is welcome,
especially beginners! SCUL was created to generate interest
in the game, to teach folks how the game should be played, and most importantly,
to have fun!!!
Sign up on our mailing list to get regular updates, or read below for more information. Registrations for the 2010 summer league are currently open only to women who want to be on our waiting list (payment must also be submitted, but will not be processed until placed onto a team).
If you've never played ultimate before, check out The Ultimate Handbook. We are currently following 11th edition rules. An important aspect of ultimate frisbee is spirit. Ultimate’s underlying philosophy is sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play. Games should be played with an attitude of friendly competition, and teams should cheer each other after the games. Below are some links that might inspire your post-game celebrations:
Each year, we acknowledge ultimate players that play the game the way it should be played. The Andy Jacobson Spirit of the Game Award represents a commitment to good sportsmanship, fair play, and dedication to the sport of ultimate frisbee. Below are the previous winners of this award.
1999: Andy Jacobson
2000: Kris Boose
2001: Chris Brackbill
2002: Liz Marshall & Dave Hunter
2003: Danielle Berardi & Lenny Gugino
2004: Rob Borger & Sue Niezgoda
2005: Doug McLaughlin & Claudine Widmer
2006: Julie Danna & Benjy Romig

*To nominate a player for the SOTG Award, email Mike Duffey with a short paragraph about why that player deserves the SOTG Award. Voting will take place during the playoffs to determine the winners.
Each year a committee drafts teams in an effort to make teams as evenly matched as possible. As a reminder, baggage requests are only accepted for couples and experienced players who are bringing novice players into the league.
We will be playing on Thursday nights again with one Monday and Thursday week to compensate for a week where we don't have fields. The early round of games (E) usually begin at 7 pm and the late games (L) begin around 9 pm. Each team will have two doubleheaders (DH) this year so that every team has a chance to play each other.
A word about weather: We will play in light rain,
but not a driving rainstorm. We will not play if there is lightning
in the area!!! Do not take shelter under trees if there is
lightning! Go to your cars and await further instructions. In
general, we will resume play 15 minutes after lightning has passed the
area and/or is has stopped raining hard.
