Welcome

Welcome to the State College Ultimate League (SCUL). This is a city league for summer play of the game of ultimate. We're looking forward to our 12th season of ultimate here in the summer of 09. This is a co-ed league and everyone is welcome, especially beginners! SCUL was created to generate interest in the game, to teach folks how the game should be played, and most importantly, to have fun!!! Sign up on our mailing list to get regular updates, or read below for more information.

The registration deadline has passed, but we are still accepting registrations from women for our 2009 summer league.

Rules

The most important aspect of the rules is regarding sportsmanship:

Ultimate has traditionally relied upon a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting of opposing players, dangerous aggression, intentional fouling, or other "win-at-all-costs" behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players.

If you've never played ultimate before, check out The Ultimate Handbook. This year we will be following 11th edition rules.

Spirit of the Game

Each year, we acknowledge ultimate players that play the game the way it should be played. The Andy Jacobson Spirit of the Game Award represents a commitment to good sportsmanship, fair play, and dedication to the sport of ultimate frisbee. Below are the previous winners of this award.

  • 1999: Andy Jacobson
  • 2000: Kris Boose
  • 2001: Chris Brackbill
  • 2002: Liz Marshall & Dave Hunter
  • 2003: Danielle Berardi & Lenny Gugino
  • 2004: Rob Borger & Sue Niezgoda
  • 2005: Doug McLaughlin & Claudine Widmer

  • 2008: Kelly Borra & Brian Rowan

Rosters

All people who completed registration forms and paid dues before the registration deadline have been placed in the SCUL lottery and drafted to teams. Each year a lottery committee drafts teams in an effort to make teams as evenly matched as possible. As a reminder, baggage requests are only accepted for couples and experience players who are bringing novice players into the league.

Here are the current rosters for our 2009 summer league!

Schedule / Results

Below is the schedule for the 2009 summer league season. We will be playing on Thursday nights again. The first round of games usually begin at 7 pm and the feature game begins around 9 pm. Checkout the weekly highlights after each week by clicking on the date!

A word about weather: We will play in light rain, but not a driving rainstorm. We will not play if there is lightning in the area!!! Do not take shelter under trees if there is lightning! Go to your cars and await further instructions. In general, we will resume play 15 minutes after lightning has passed the area and/or is has stopped raining hard.
