Welcome

Welcome to the State College Ultimate League (SCUL). This is a city league for summer play of the game of ultimate. We're looking forward to our 11th season of ultimate here in the summer of 08. This is a co-ed league and everyone is welcome, especially beginners! SCUL was created to generate interest in the game, to teach folks how the game should be played, and most importantly, to have fun!!! Sign up on our mailing list to get regular updates, or read below for more information.

The 2008 registration form is now available! Download the registration form here and return it to Micah Willy or Brian Rowan by May 31st along with $20.

Rules

Once again, we will be playing with 9th edition rules. The most important aspect of the rules is regarding sportsmanship:

Ultimate has traditionally relied upon a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting of opposing players, dangerous aggression, intentional fouling, or other "win-at-all-costs" behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players.

If you've never played ultimate before, check out The Ultimate Handbook.

Rosters

All people who complete registration forms and pay dues before the registration deadline will be placed in the SCUL lottery. Each year a lottery committee drafts teams in an effort to make teams as evenly matched as possible. People completing registration forms after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list and may be added to teams, if necessary, after the first few weeks to make teams more competitive or to make up for injury losses. The rosters will be securely linked here once they are made.

Schedule

We're still working on the 2008 summer league schedule and will post it as soon as we can. In general, the season kicks off with a hat tournament towards the end of May, and the regular season goes from the beginning of June to the middle of August. The first round of games usually begin at 7 pm and the second round begins around 9 pm.

A word about weather: We will play in light rain, but not a driving rainstorm. We will not play if there in lightning in the area!!! Do not take shelter under the big tree if there is lightning! Go to your cars and await further instructions. In general, we will resume play 15 minutes after lightning has passed the area and/or is has stopped raining hard.
